As of 11 Feb 2015 I am currently listing new items at Discogs.com. Eventually I'll have things wired so that everything at Discogs also shows up here (and prices will always be a touch cheaper if you buy through this page), but for now, please look to my seller account at Discogs for the latest additions.
For the most part, these are records from my personal collection which I've decided not to keep because I just don't have enough space on my shelves. In some cases, the items are records that I bought more than one copy of. Sometimes I can't help myself...
For those of you who check back regularly, the most recent entries will be at the top of the list. (You can change the sorting order of the list by clicking on the column headers, however, this function works better in some browsers than others. I haven’t figured out why yet.)
The sale box now has its own Twitter feed for new arrivals: twitter.com/XandersSaleBox
Orders for items from this list may be combined with orders for Radio Khartoum goods to save on postage. If you want to find out about Radio Khartoum, click here.
|Shirley Horn||If You Want Love / The Spell You Spin|
According to the labels, both sides are from the soundtrack to A Dandy in Aspic, but I didn’t hear the flip side when I watched the film a few years ago. The flipside, by the way, was comped on Quincy Jones' “Q” box set as “The Spell You Spin (The Web You Weave)”.
Insanely good and insanely rare: I have seen two listings in 10 years on Ebay, both of which I snagged. Not on discogs. The single is pressed on styrene and this copy would get a visual grade of VG+ (scuffs and light scratches) but there are two faint cracks appearing.
In crisp but yellowing Bell / Amy design sleeve.
|Popsy Rock!||Vol. 05 1997 Winter Issue|
Gorgeous Japanese fanzine by Pat Detective (later of the Bambini label). This one is heavily about él Records. Booklet housed in a 7” sleeve that is very much an homage to él.
|General Strike||Danger in Paradise|
One of my all-time faves. Fantastic tinker-toy music from 1979-84 with involvement from David Cunningham of Flying Lizards fame. I wasted so much time on other Steve Beresford and David Toop items but never found anything else close to this.

|Joeboy||Joeboy In Rotterdam / Joeboy In San Francisco|
Tuxedomoon or a Tuxedomoon sideproject. Light scuffs and very light hairlines on vinyl. Plays with very little noise, but do note that due to the long playing time (side two is over 27 min. long!) the volume is low. Sleeve: several small creases + slight wear on corners
|Backstreet Backlash Records||BBR 004||LP||$15|
|Joeboy||Joeboy In Rotterdam / Joeboy In San Francisco|
Tuxedomoon or a Tuxedomoon sideproject. Light scuffs and very light hairlines on vinyl. Not play graded. The main issue with the sleeve is a price tag scar (2 cm missing artwork). Faint edge wear, faint creasing, and faint impressions from writing (you probably won’t notice the pen impressions if you aren’t looking for them).
|Backstreet Backlash Records||BBR 004||LP||$9|
|Mar-Keys||Last Night / Night Before|
Scuffs and a couple small scratches, but plays strong (record is cut nice and loud) with light crackle way behind the loud music.
|El-Malo||The Worst Universal Jet Set|
Although the credits on this LP say“Produced by El-Malo”, I definitely remember this as being produced by Cornelius (who appears in some of the photos), and Cornelius’ website claims credit too. Must just be that this is the German issue, from 1995, and they didn’t yet know who Cornelius was?

|Plastic Pancake||plastic pancake 010||7"||$5|

|B-flower||Strings / Country Robinson|
Very nice packaging on this one: the wrap-around sleeve is actually a 12-page booklet
Opaque black case, with printed artwork applied directly to the plastic case. Not sure if this was a deluxe version or not.
|Righteous Babe Records||RBR 016-D||CD||$7|
|The Kenny Clarke - Francy Boland Big Band||Latin Kaleidoscope|
Fantastic orchestral jazz album the first half of which is a 6 part suite composed by household (my house) favorite Gary McFarland.
|The Cat’s Miaow||A Kiss and a Cuddle|
Great comp with 24 tracks (plus a few hidden alternate versions) of songs originally released on cassette. Tab mark (impression) on booklet.

The a-side is called “Simple” and the b-side doesn’t seem to have a title. Wrap-around sleeve on speckled paper.
4 song EP, French indiepop from 1995
|Candy Says Recordings||can 51203||7"||$2|
|Cath Carroll||My Cold Heart|
c/w Into Day
Debut album, tape and packaging appear to be in excellent condition (I’ll give it one more listen before shipping). Cover printed on textured paper (mustard color) with onionskin insert for track listing. Cassette appears to be chrome.
|Motiv Communications||motiv product one, edition three||tape||$6|
Spotless copy, other than slight discoloration (from age) at jacket opening. With insert
|Motiv Communications||motiv prod 5||12"||$6|
|Gary McFarland||Soft Samba Strings|
Cut out hole, initials written on front cover, bit of ring wear and edge wear. I think this copy plays pretty clean and I don’t think there are any noticeable pops, however, the top end feels a little fuzzy to me — my other copy (not for sale) is definitely sharper.
|Johnny Whitaker||Friends (Music from the Television Series “Sigmund and the Sea Monsters”)|
Vinyl plays excellent (shows a couple fingerprints and a couple very minor scuffs, no hairlines, no spindle marks). Sleeve has a cut out notch and many crease marks, moderate edge wear, but is clean and bright. No ring wear.
|Gary McFarland & Co.||Does the Sun Really Shine on the Moon?|
Scuffs and hairlines don’t look bad, but this copy plays worse than it looks: there’s a fair amount of static throughout. Get this copy as a listener to test the waters (it’s not horrible) and get a better copy later (as I did) or get it as a cheap gift for a friend. Gatefold cover has bumps and minor scuffs and a 3 to 4 cm bend on one corner. Nice liner notes, btw, which wouldn’t be too out of place on a Hepburns album. Did I mention that we love Gary here?
|Skye Recording Co. Ltd.||SK-2||LP||$3|
|George & Ira Gershwin||Funny Face O.S.T|
Moderate static, occasional pops. Hasn’t been cleaned by me, so it might improve if you’ve got a record vac. Bit of fading on cover, 5” seam split on top of back (it’s a gatefold cover), bumped/scuffed corners, bit of laminate peel on back.
|Les Très Bien Ensemble||Je Veux Etre Un Symbol Sexuel|
Gatefold sleeve, orange vinyl.

Nice. In wraparound sleeve. Mind the Gap said: "two very melodic electronic instrumentals between ISAN and Electric Sound Of Joy, a monotonous noisy space-rock track and a slow atmospheric piano piece."
|Roisin Recordings||Roisin 06||12"||$5|
|Speakerphone Recordings||dial 13||LP||$5|
|Jackie & Roy||Lovesick|
Very clean (one light scuff noticed), black label. Cover bright and clean. No ring wear on front, very, very slight on back (very slight abrasion at bottom, otherwise noticeable at extreme angles). Slight edge bumping on all sides; barely visible sticker goo in one corner on back.
|The Alan Lorber Orchestra||The Lotus Palace|
Very clean, yellow label DJ copy. Gatefold cover is bright and shiny with no ring wear but has slight bumps to corners and a thin strip on the back where the printed artwork has been torn away, revealing the board underneath. Affected area is small: less than 1” x ”.
|Air Wave||Stiffling. H|
The songs are “Locked In” and “Not Enough, Sorry!”. Sleeve printed in silver and blue on white paper.
|Boyracer / Sabine||Boyracer / Painting Portraits|
Yes, the name of the Boyracer song is “Boyracer.” I can’t get this flexi to play perfectly. There is a small skip (or sound defect) in one place in the Boyracer track. It might just be dirt: I’ve tried cleaning it and the skip seems to have moved. I can’t get it to play perfectly. Maybe you can.
|Wurlitzer Jukebox||wj 001||flexi||$2|
|Chocolate Barry||The Passion of Spain / I Cry Because of You, Argentina|
Flexi has a sleeve note obviously written under the spell of él Records. Contains an early version of “I Cry Because of You, Argentina,” different from the version(s) found on Choco’s album and the Tambourine Studios comp.
|Records from the Cookie Nose Tower||uppåtneråtvadsomhelst 002||flexi||$6|
The first rock opera, precursor to the better known Eva’s Story.

|Hagood Hardy||Maybe Tomorrow|
with Kathryn Moses. Sealed until I came along and listened to it a couple times.
|Hydroplane||“excerpts from the forthcoming LP”|
“a collage of songs and sound on a one sided record.”
|Three Peeps||My Heaven, My Sky|
c/w “My One True Love” and “Mr. Spaceman”. Three Peeps were Rose Melberg and Jen Sbragia of the Softies plus Peter Green. Lovely 45 in a folkie mode. This copy has a slight (3mm) warp which does not affect play.
|The Pines||Milk Bar|
4 track e.p. by Pam Berry and co. Brilliant sleeve in textured paper is an homage to the Smiths’ “What Difference Does It Make?”
Reissue, still in shrink, played a few times by me
This was still sealed until I opened it and gave it a few spins. A near perfect copy, with slight dings to the corners and slight creasing on the spine
|Atlantic||CS 4 1670||LP||$8|
|Pelé / Sergio Mendes||Pelé O.S.T.|
Sticker damage and cut out notches on upper right corner of sleeve. Vinyl shows signs of use, but plays reasonably well. Maybe a VG-? I’d keep this (and be satisfied with this copy) if it weren’t for my low tolerance for soundtrack LPs with multiple versions of a theme. (For what it’s worth, it’s a good theme. Trattoria fans might recognize it from Yoshie’s cover version).

Very moody songs from John Moore of Jesus and Mary Chain/Black Box Recorder fame.

|Pierre Jansen||Le Boucher O.S.T.|
Digipak: all teeth on tray are broken. It’s black tray, so I suppose that if you really wanted to, you could cannibalize the tray from something else and glue it here. Volume 21 of Universal France’s “Écoutez le Cinéma!” series, with the usual lovely bi-lingual booklet, etc.

|Leo’s Sunshipp||We Need Each Other|
Warped. I think this will play without skipping if your cartridge is set up around 3 grams, but it definitely throws mine (set a little under 2g) a few times. Reissue, spun a few times. Free with order of any other 12” vinyl, just ask for it.
|Lyon’s Record Co.||L-1000||LP||free|
|Atmosphere Strut||Cloud One|
Much touted collaboration between Patrick Adams and Peter Brown. For what it’s worth, I’m just put off by what others call hypnotic. Reissue, played twice.
aka Kotoba No Mae (Before the Words). 1996 album by Nobukazu Takemura and co. This is the original Japanese release, not the version on 99. Unusually thick jewelcase with nice booklet.
|Idyllic (Toy’s Factory)||TFCC-88208||CD||$18|
|Steve Beresford||L’extraordinaire Jardin de Charles Trenet|
As with so many Beresford albums, the true highlight here is the one Beresford original (with lyrics by Andrew Brenner, of course) “Apprenez le Français avec Trenet”, a charming tour de force of Franglais. CD booklet has cut corner
|Chabada / Nato||53024-2||CD||$5|
|David Toop & Max Eastley||Buried Dreams|
Elaborate CD booklet uses a mix of translucent (i.e., onion skin) and opaque papers.

Slight ring bending at top of sleeve (of course, the Irdial design sleeve housing this 12” is designed to look like it’s worn). A mysterious 12” which I bought in 1994 but probably never played more than 5 times.

A beautiful artifact from 1983. Cassette with 7” folder sleeve with 6 double-sided inserts featuring info and artwork on the contributing artists. Texts are in a mix of French and English. Numbered: #0742 out of 2000. Cassette (tested and dubbed to CDR; CDR included in sale) and packaging in excellent condition.
|Jac Berrocal||Fatal Encounters|
Original 1993 issue in digipak with booklet
|Les Disques Du Soleil Et De L'Acier||CDSA 54026||CD||$18|
Snapshot of a band in transition? I’m guessing that the band was moving from one place to another when it made this. There are a lot of great Spanish sounds on this one, ranging jangle and indiepop (sometimes with alternating boy/girl vocals, always a plus in my book) to more atmospheric pop (not shoegaze, but definitely experimental). They’ve got brass, they’ve got strings, and they’ve got electronics. It’s all very tasteful, though I think I would have liked it better if they had concentrated on one direction.

Spanish picture sleeve - $2 alone, or free with order of other vinyl items - ask for it
Original 1973 Spanish pressing with lyrics inner sleeve. Includes "Si no fuera porque..." "Un millon de suenos" etc. Vinyl shows many hairline scratches but plays well. Outer sleeve has mild creasing and discoloration (probably from the paper aging). Handwriting on inner sleeve. A fine play copy of this record.
|Deltron 3030||The Instrumentals|
digipak and slipcase in immaculate condition
|Fonda 500||Super Chimpanzee|
b/w Passing Thru; Interesting Invitation
|Bo Kaspers Orkester||På Hotell|
Nice bit of jazzy Swedish pop from 1994.
|Columbia / Sony (Sweden)||477367-2||CD||$8|
A monster of a now sound groover by Peter Thomas-available on several different comps, but totally essential on vinyl; the flipside features a remix by Maxwell Implosion and Dauerfisch remix, plus “bonus beats”, but it’s all about the original.
|The 6ths||Wasps’ Nests|
promo CMJ Certain Damage edition in paper sleeve with different artwork (similar to the proper release artwork, but hand drawn) and an insert with notes/bios on each of the 15 vocalists.

|Pop-Off Tuesday||See My Ghost||Pickled Egg||egg 14||10"||$7|
Skronky pop/postpop from France, that sounds a bit like early Durutti Column solo piano pieces meeting bedroom craziness a la Pancakes (and released, appropriately enough, on Dejay Pancakes’ Rewind Records imprint).

|Hush Records||hush 033||CD||$5|
|The Work||Slow Crimes|
Angry prog/post punk in a chaotic and angular This Heat / Cold Storage vein from 1982. Some subset of this band went on to record an ace little EP as The Lowest Note on the Organ for the same label (which is how I came upon this LP). Bill Gilonis, Mick Hobbs, Tim Hodgkinson, Rick Williams, Catherine Janniaux with contributions from Chris Cutler among others. Vinyl plays great, sleeve is worn on the edges and partly taped at the top. Includes insert.
|Woof Records||woof 3||LP||$12|
|Pump||The Decoration of the Duma Continues|
1987 LP combining some rather nice melodic elements with somewhat experimental and rougher electronics by Andrew Cox and David Elliott with guest appearances by Karl Blake and Malcolm Lane. Excellent condition, both cover and vinyl.

|Viel Leicht||propellor - 005||LP||$6|
|Bob Dorough||Devil May Care|
First album by Bob, from 1956. Great cover, cool songs too, and relatively rare. But the vinyl on this copy is in too poor condition to be worth selling online, so this copy is free (with any purchase of $10 worth of 12" vinyl—just ask for it). It plays without skips, but the surface noise is loud enough that you'll surely start looking for a better copy for playing.
|Float Up CP||Kill Me in the Morning|
The more pop, more funk, less jazz follow up to Rip Rig & Panic.
|Rough Trade||rough 77||LP||$6|
|Soap||Still Muddling Along?|

|Mélanie Bauer présente Ketchup & Marmalade (vol. 1)||v/a|
Excellent compilation put together by French radio host Melanie Bauer featuring a handful of RK friends (Julien Ribot, Ignatus, Orwell) and a host of other excellent people. Many of the tracks are collaborations between the invited artists and Ms. Bauer, giving the disc more continuity than the average various artists outing, and so far as I know, the Orwell track is the only non-exclusive number. I tried to get this disc into distribution via RK last year, but someone at the label fell asleep, so all I have to sell is this one spare copy that I managed to get my hands on.

debut 3 track release
Nice folksy pop by Melbourne artist on Mark Lucksmiths' label. Hand processed (silkscreened or stamped on painted card) artwork. Handsome!

Dave Douglas (tp), Cuong Vu (tp), Yuka Honda (sampler), Anthony Coleman (sampler), Hilliard Greene (b), Mark Dresser (b), Chris Speed (ts, cl), Dougie Bowne (ds).
|John Zorn / Marc Ribot||Book of Heads|
Composed by Zorn, originally for Eugene Chadbourne (and based on the latter's improv techniques). Performed by Ribot...wild stuff.
|Marc Ribot||Don't Blame Me|
Japanese release in nice miniature gatefold (LP style) cardboard sleeve. Of course the folded insert with liner notes is only in Japanese, but a lovely package all the same.
I saved this one from a bargain bin. Jacket has lots of bends and wear. Vinyl plays fine. This is a 3 sided record (i.e., the second 12" is intentionally blank on one side - very useful for setting the anti-skate on your turntable, btw).

|Jim Nolet||With You|
Solo album by Jazz Passenger violinist with David Murray, Brad Jones, Bern Nix, Sadao Harada and others.
|Knitting Factory Works||KFW 150||CD||$6|
A: Disco Clone (English); B: Disco Clone (French).
|Peter Bjorn and John||Young Folks + 2|
An extra copy of an ace single featuring duet with Victoria Bergsman from the Concretes on the title track. B-sides are "Ancient Curse" and "All Those Expectations - weak mix".
|The Magnetic Fields||69 Love Songs box|
Box set, all three discs plus the whopping fat booklet with Daniel Handler interviewing Stephen Merritt. Some sticker goo and modest scuffing on box; light scuffing on jewelcases. Discs, booklets and book all look very good.
|Merge||Merge 169||3xCD, book||$15|
|Erik Friendlander's Chimera||The Watchman|
1996 release on Tzadik. It's nice and I shouldn't sell this, but then I haven't listened to it in ages, so...
|Doc Wör Mirran||Bundeswehr Goons + 5 more tracks|
6 track ep of musique brut and noise experiments from 1987. Presumably self-released on Empty Records out of Nürnberg with the clever catalogue number MT-045 (get it?). Every track finishes with a lock groove. Not sure if the sleeve is hand painted or silkscreened, but it glows in the dark and has a 16 page booklet with words and (pasted in) pictures. A hell of a lot of work. First edition, numbered #161 of 200 on both booklet and record label. Vinyl in near pristine condition (I don't think I could have played this more than 5 times in the 18 or 19 years I've had it); outer sleeve shows slight curling at top and bottom, but otherwise as perfect as handmade gets.
|Michel Legrand||Les parapluies de Cherbourg|
The Umbrellas of Cherbourg. 2 CD version from 1997 with full soundtrack plus 6 bonus tracks (including Tony Bennett doing an English version). I adore the film (and the music) but find I can't actually listen to the music at home without my head being dominated by the film. Is that a bad thing? I don't know, but it doesn't work for me. (Strangely, I can listen to the Les demoiselles soundtrack at home, no problem...).
|Flannelmouth||I've seen nothing yet|
4 song EP in gatefold card sleeve
|Keren Ann||La Disparition||Capitol Records (France)||5386252||CD||$7|

2 track single of Saint Etienne-esque dance pop from Sweden
|Swan Dive||Words You Whisper||Siesta Records||siesta 134||CD||$7|
|Billy Eckstine||Thank You Love / Is Anyone Here Goin' My Way|
in Motown ("The Sound of Young America") design sleeve.
|Bob Dorough||Just About Everything|
Free with purchase of any other 12" vinyl items. Just ask for it. There's a small warp which renders the first minute of the first track on side 1 unplayable (side 2 is OK). I dig this album, and finally found a replacement copy. Bob is a wordy jazz singer with a light Arkansas tinged voice. If you grew up in the US, you probably know him from the School House Rock cartoons ("Three is a Magic Number", etc). Bob was in charge of the project.
|Inner City||IC 1023||LP||free|

|The Legendary Jim Ruiz Group||Mij Amsterdam e.p.|
Promo only release from Trattoria. Doesn't have the Trattoria "menu" number of the normal releases. 4 tracks taken from the group's "Oh Brother Where Art Thou? album. Rather cute artwork featuring an illustration from some old (60's, 70's?) car mechanic's manual. I'm sorry, but I can't i.d. the type of car. Doesn't look like the Yugos of the 80s, at any rate. Slimline case.

|Last Few Days||Too Much is Not Enough / Solemn Warnings / If The Bonds Are Not To Burst|
From 1986, this was (I believe) the first vinyl release on Jon Wozencroft's Touch label, which prior to this point had been cassette (and elaborately printed freeform materials) only. A-side track had been featured on Touch's Ritual Magnetic North cassette/book comp, but obviously warranted a separate vinyl release: caustic mantra, reeling and somewhat surreal in its non sequiturs, all set to one very sturdy overloaded beat. A classic, and I don't know why the hell I've let it slip into the my sale box, other than that I so rarely play it nowadays. Very slight yellowing of paper along sleeve opening, otherwise in splendid condition.
|Superheroes||The Ocean Diver|

|Irene Kral||Where is Love|
Lot of ring wear on cover and clipped upper right corner. The vinyl itself is quite decent.
|Chi Coltrane||s/t||Columbia||KC 31275||LP||$3|
|Elli Medeiros||Bom bom...|
1987 album by Elli of Elli & Jacno fame, but on this LP she's working with Ramuntcho Matta (which is I why I bought this, as I'm a fan of Matta's tinkertoy instrumentals album in Crammed's Made to Measure Series. This album isn't tinkertoy...it's mid 80's jazzy pop. Not at all unpleasant to me, but not really my thing at the moment, either). Gatefold sleeve.
|Dean Fraser||Big Up!|
"Advance CD" copy. Has artwork in jewelcase, but probably not the same artwork as the regular release. Opening track on this one is an absolute ska-jazz or jazz-ska stomper (with two drumkits banging away, one on the right and one on the left). Wish I could just get the one song on a 7" (ok...at 7 minutes, it would be too long), since the rest of this album isn't my cuppa.

|Paulo Chagas||Sodoma||Sub Rosa||SUBCD026-48||CD||$4|
Debut album, first edition. Not sure how they printed this, but it isn't boring old CMYK process like the later edition. Actually looks like it might have been silk-screened. The "nouvelle" definitely appears to be hand stamped. And the paper is a nice semi-rough stock with the odd bit of confetti fiber. All in all, simple, rough, but elegant. Somebody must have gotten sick of doing these by hand...
|Corduroy||Dad Man Cat||Acid Jazz||Jazid CD 60||CD||$7|
Third album by unclassifiable duo who started out on Nobukazu Takemura's Bellissima label before moving up to parent label Toy's Factory. Although this album is by far the most "mainstream" and rock oriented of the discs I've heard, there's still quite a bit of strangeness going on here...probably a testament to the fact that their second album was produced with Cornelius. The question is who influenced whom more?
|Toy's Factory||TFCC 88062||CD||$12|

|Brion Gysin (w/ Ramuntcho Matta)||Self Portrait Jumping|
Stories and poems by artist Brion Gysin. Quite reminiscent of W William S. Burroughs at times, ostensibly because Gysin is credited with inventing the cut-up technique which Burroughs became better known for. Recorded shortly before his death in 86, this album features Brion Gysin singing/rapping his own texts set to music by Ramuntcho Matta (working here in more of a "band" format as opposed to the General Strike vs Sack & Blumm style of Matta's later work), with guest performances by Don Cherry, Elli Medeiros, Steve Lacy, Lizzy Mercier Descloux, Caroline Loeb, and others.
